The last 3 visits

Hi Bridgette

The last 3 visits...
Because we are dealing with babies and maternity, every visit is different. Sometimes I leave on such a high, other days feel hopeless and sad.
Last Thursday was a hard day. It wasn't very busy but we had 2 ladies who were 42 weeks plus and only then being induced (I always worry about the baby!)
1 18 year old girl all alone in prem labour at 7 months. They were trying to stop the labour and it looked as if she could go home.
We had a 16 year old skinny girl who had her son in the bed with her but looked so bewildered and disconnected to her baby.
A lady whose son was stillborn at 38 weeks (thanks Bridgette for sympathy packs for this poor woman) Her and her husband walked down the passage with an empty carrycot/baby carrier.
A woman whose son was 2 minutes old (born while we were there) and so beautiful but then gets popped in an incubator to warm up with a sick baby next to him.
Tiny prems sharing incubators with full term unwell infants.
I just need to jump in quickly and say don't judge the staff, they do the best they can with the little they have. We have been doing up their bathroom which is almost done. Will post before and after pics next week.
And then their was Monday.......... Colette and her girls went and it wasn't very busy but she visited with a mother who was a tik addict. She said it was so upsetting for her because this poor little boy had club feet and lines where his toes should have been. He had a massive head with slitty eyes and no real nose. Just 2 holes apart on his face. The girls mother was with her and had to see the results of her daughters revolting addicition. I feel sorry for all 3 of them. It's easy to hate the young mother but we don't know her circumstances. The baby was going off to Tygerberg where he will hopefully have facial reconstructive surgery.
Fortunately today was such an awesome day with lots of gorgeous babies and moms. We gave out 18 bags. The neonatal ICU was full but not sick full term babies, just lots of tiny babies. One of the twin girls from 2 weeks ago wasn't looking very good. Poor sweet girl. Please God, take care of this little person! I have a new sewing lady called Janine who lives in Stellenbosch. She makes me the most gorgeous bags and if it wasn't for her and Rosaline, we would have no project!

There is more to come. Mel had to tend to her children.

GOD BLESS YOU and all the wonderful things that you are doing!!!

I just posted a note on Tertia's blog to let her know I finished my 4th blanket and am starting on my 5th. I doubt I'll have the 5th finished in time for the package I'm sending off next week - - but at any rate, you should have at least 4 blankies + associated goodies the next time your husband is in CA.

Here's the link to my blog w/ pictures of the blankies I've completed thus far:

I also told Tertia that my fellow triplet momma's have been busy. The one time we met, we consumed a lot of wine + chocolate + giggled like school girls. We'll meet again soon and I guarantee - eventually this group will get our act together!! In the meantime, I've recruited a group of retired knit masters who are all geared up to get going. They also do blankets, sweaters, etc. for babies at hospitals in So. Cal - but they have said they'd like to help out with Bosom Buddies, too. Let's see what happens!!!

Cheers! :)
